The PCG Commandant Adm Atermio Abu confirmed that they intend to request for Japanese funding assistance for the acquisition of 5 more large patrol vessels, as well as for the construction of a new headquarters that includes a wharf capable of docking their new assets.

This was confirmed by Adm. Abu during a visit to the PCG Headquarters by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) President Tanaka Akihiko on January 20, 2023.

It would be remembered that MaxDefense Philippines  previously reported that the PCG plans to build a new headquarters in Subic Bay, and plans to procure a large number of new ships.

The Magbanua-class is expected to be the one to be used as basis for the additional large patrol vessels, as they were Japanese designed and built by MHI.
