In the Senate hearing of the Committee on National Defense with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the DND, Senator Raffy Tulfo asked about the update on the downpayment of the Philippines on the acquisition of the Mi-17 heavy-lift helicopters.
An official of the DND said that among the options is that the Russian government would deliver the finished helicopter platforms to the Philippines, for the 1.9B pesos that has already been downloaded for the project.
The Mil Mi-17 is a Soviet-designed Russian military helicopter family in production at two factories in Kazan and Ulan-Ude. It has a maximum speed of 280 km/h and a range of 800 km.
