A89 anti-aircraft missile (Battalion 172, Regiment 64) is responsible for protecting the Noi Bai airport area. A89 is actually Vietnam's designation for the 9K35 Strela-10 (SA-13) self-propelled missile complex - one of the last gifts from the Soviet Union in 1989.

When fighting, each A-89 missile complex is capable of carrying 8 missiles, of which 4 are mounted on racks, 4 are in containers at the end of the vehicle. The vehicle combination is improved with high flexibility, each time it takes a crew of 3 soldiers to install 4 missiles on the launcher in less than 10 minutes.

The 9M37 (9M37M) missile ammunition complex has an effective range of up to 5,000m in the altitude range of 25m to 3,500m, placed in a launch tube cum storage tube in ready-to-fire mode.

The A-89 missile complex is capable of attacking and destroying all low-flying targets with a small radar reflection area at an inward flight speed of up to 517m/s (when firing reception) and an outward flight speed of 415m. /second (when chasing) such as: Fighter aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
