Japan is preparing its plan to provide military aid to like-minded countries, with the framework for the Official Security Assistance (OSA) program being finalized.

The Philippines was already eyed as one of the first 4 countries to receive military aid from Japan, together with Bangladesh, Fiji, and Malaysia.

Japan plans to provide a radar system to the Philippines as an initial aid package, to assist in improving the country's warning and detection capability.

Japan is considered a strategic defense partner of the Philippines.
