PACIFIC OCEAN -- Weapon Control Systems team aboard Republic of Singapore Navy guided missile frigate RSS Intrepid (69) conducting the Aster surface-to-air missile firing during Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2022.
Twenty-six nations, 38 ships, four submarines, more than 170 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 29 to Aug. 4 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California.
The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans. RIMPAC 2022 is the 28th exercise in the series that began in 1971. (DVIDS)
“Engage inbound hostile!”
It was a proud moment for our Formidable-class frigate RSS Intrepid at the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise earlier this week when she successfully fired the Aster surface-to-air missile, taking down the target simulating a high-speed sea-skimming missile!
“It may be just one person pressing the button to fire the Aster missile, but it takes a whole ship to make it a successful firing. From the engineers who keep our ship running in tip-top condition 24/7 to the chefs who prepare great meals to keep the crew going, I think it was a whole ship effort that led to our success.” - ME3 Zhong Shikun, Chief Weapon Systems Control
