Defence Minister Witnessed Successful Exocet Firing At RMN Exercise TAMING SARI 21/2022

LUMUT – The Chief of Defence Force, General Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hj Affendi bin Buang RMAF accompanied the Senior Minister of Defence, YB Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Hussein to witness the implementation of Exercise TAMING SARI Series 21 of 2022 which is also a missile firing exercise conducted by the Royal Malaysian Navy.

Apart from that, it is also the culmination of the Operational Sea Training Exercise West (OSTEX WEST) 1/22 which was implemented from 16 to 20 May 2022 involving the assets of the RMN Fleet.

In total, this TAMING SARI Exercise has involved 1,250 personnel from the RMN, the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA). Meanwhile, in terms of assets, it has involved 10 ships, 5 Fast Combat Boats (FCB), 3 RMN aircraft, 3 RMAF aircraft and 2 MMEA aircraft.

In today’s firing, the EXOCET MM40 missile was launched from KD LEKIR in the waters of the North Melaka Strait and exactly on target.

The success of this missile firing also proves the ability and expertise of the RMN personnel, especially in handling national defence assets which play a role in ensuring national waters remain safe and sovereign.

Also witnessing the exercise were the Deputy Minister of Defence, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence, the Chief of Navy and the Chief Air Force.
