* Said it overshadows work done by undermined groups including Black people
* Urged state to stop history classes until a better teaching method can be found

History classes 'lead to white privilege and a racist society' and should be stopped in schools, according to an Illinios lawmaker.

Representative LaShawn K. Ford claimed history books and teaching as it stands 'unfairly communicates' the US's past and overshadows the work done by historically undermined groups - including LGBT, Black and Jewish people.

Both Ford - a Democrat - and other community leaders in Evanston, Illinois, are calling on state leaders to stop history lessons until a better teaching method can be found.
