The Royal Thai Army will be Supplied by French LG1 Mk III 105mm Howitzer

According to documents from the website The Royal Thai Army Ordnance Department on 28 November 2020 announced the winners of the project to purchase twelve 105mm towed light guns with automatic firing control and fire control systems.

The winner of the bid is United Defense Technology Co., Ltd., Thailand, with the amount of 834,400,000 baht ($ 26,722,194 or 22,677,763 Euros).

The Facebook page of United Defense Technology later revealed that the first 105mm towed light howitzer that the Royal Thai Army will purchase is the 105mm Nexter LG1 Mk III light cannon of France.

According to the company Nexter, France, in the proposal to improve the light artillery LG1 Mk I, which has been in service since the year 2011 and the LG1 Mk II entered service in the year 1996, 24 units to be standard LG1 Mk III.

Presently LG1 Mk I and LG1 Mk II are stationed in 9th Artillery Battalion and the 19th Artillery Battalion, 9th Artillery Regiment, 9th Infantry Division (The 109th Artillery Battalion another unit up straight of the 9th, uses a medium-towed howitzer M198 calibre 155mm).

Each battalion totaling has 12 guns, making it possible to understand that the procurement of the new LG1 Mk III will have 12 guns for one battalion to replace the old artillery, such as the M101A1 or the M56.
