In 2019, the Army launched a program to upgrade the Type-85 manned tracked vehicle to extend its service life beyond its current lifespan of about 35 years.
The improvement is likely to change/improve the engine of the Deutz on the car. Change/improve gear set improve the body and interior which is believed to be the first step to renovate 51 cars and it is likely to be improved.
But it is unclear whether there will be improvements in all the vehicles that the Army has in use, which is around 400 vehicles, with the improvement being made by a manufacturer NORINCO. Which, after being prepared expected to be able to extend its service life by about 20 years.
