Indian Army Screens Biopic On Sino-India War Hero Subedar Joginder Singh

While Chinese troops outnumbered Indian platoon, Singh fought stoutly and was taken as a prisoner of war (PoW) by the Chinese army

TEZPUR: In the season of biopics in Bollywood, Indian Army has screened a biopic on Sino-India war hero Subedar Joginder Singh.

A Paramvir Chakra awardee Singh stoutly fought the Chinese army in 1962 war and later died in the captivity.

This is the first such kind of initiative by the army.

Singh joined the British India Army in 1936 and fought in Burma war. He joined the first Sikh Regiment of Indian Army.

In the Sino-India war of 1962, Singh was commanding officer of Bum La pass in the then North East Frontier Agency (NEFA).

While Chinese troops outnumbered Indian platoon, Singh fought stoutly and was taken as a prisoner of war (PoW) by the Chinese army.

While in Chinese captivity, he refuses to take treatment from Chinese despite the fact that he was injured. His body was handed over to India later.

On Sunday, the biopic was screened in the 4 corps of the Indian army in Tezpur. Singh's youngest daughter, who was eight months old when he died, joined the screening.

She told ET, " I am really happy that a film is made on my father and this will surely inspire the people. It refreshed my memories about my father."

Screening of the movie is significant after the recent standoff between India and China in Doklam. China has also opposed PM Narendra Modi's Arunachal Pradesh visit. China often claims that Arunachal Pradesh is a part of their territory.
