Politico: Trump, Abe to discuss 'maximum pressure' on North Korea at April meeting

President Donald Trump is set to meet Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at Mar-a-Lago to discuss “the international campaign to maintain maximum pressure” on North Korea ahead of a planned summit between the president and North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un, the White House said Monday.

Abe’s upcoming visit to the president’s south Florida estate on April 17 will mark the leaders’ third summit since Trump took office. Trump welcomed Abe to Mar-a-Lago February 2017 and visited Japan in November.

Apart from the dialogue on North Korea, Trump and Abe will also “reaffirm the United States-Japan alliance as a cornerstone of peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region,” and “explore ways to expand fair and reciprocal trade and investment ties” between the two nations, the White House said.
