The EXTRA missile is one of the most modern weapons of Vietnam's coastal missile force today, can be used to destroy groups of ships, sea landing groups with high accuracy.
Get ready to participate in training and drills with real ammunition of the 685 Coast Missile Brigade, Navy Region 4, always maintain well the learning and training of special weapons on instrument models, contributing to reducing reduce costs as well as increase the life of equipment that the brigade is in service, including the missile system EXTRA (EXTended Range Artillery).
Thanks to the positive solutions on the 685 Brigade, it has successfully completed the training, mastery of weapons and equipment, mastered the tactics of the division, team level and brigade level. Pictured is a mobile launch pad of the EXTRA missile system that the 685 Brigade is equipped with.
It is known that in the previous training seasons, the 685 Brigade often trained soldiers to use the operation of special weapons through theoretical and painting textbooks, after a period of training this method was revealed. reveal many limitations, lack of vivid visualization. Therefore, the 685 Brigade science team has built an overview model of the shore missile system that the unit is equipped with.
Accordingly, this general simulation system is a combination of all existing 685 Brigade equipment including stations, launchers, drones and observation stations. Thanks to that, officers and soldiers in the unit can easily observe the overall operation process of a complete shore missile system in the most vivid way.
And thanks to this simulation system, the officers and soldiers of the 685 Brigade can easily master the principle of operating a realistic shore missile system, then proceed to master and exploit the maximum the weapon's power in training and ready to fight.
The 685 Brigade was honored as one of the first units of the Navy to be equipped with the EXTRA shore missile system, one of the most modern weapons of Vietnam's shore missile force today.
Through practical experience in deploying missile-hitting drills directly to the target in 2014 and 2017, the 685 Brigade and the Navy shore missile units captured and hit the target accurately. Since then, creating confidence for the army about new weapons in combat.
About the EXTRA shore missile, this is a series of missiles co-developed by IMI (Israel Military Industries) and MLM Systems Division of IAI (Israel Aircraft Industries). presented for the first time at the 2005 Paris Air Show. Orbiter 2 is one of the popular Israeli reconnaissance UAV lines, now equipped with many Vietnamese Navy and Air Force units, it has hours of operation up to 4 hours with maximum data link range 80km and has a ceiling of over 5,000 meters.

Meanwhile, missile ammunition is placed in a closed container, grouped into groups of 4 missiles, convenient for maintenance, storage and use. In a ready-to-fight state, the missile containers are placed on a fixed launch pad or a launcher and can be maneuvered for immediate combat.
EXTRA ammunition has a length of 3.97 m, a diameter of 300 mm, a launch weight of 450 kg, carries a powerful explosive warhead or a cluster bullet weighing 120 kg.
IAI and IMI combined the two facilities' experience in missile engines, warheads, and navigation systems to develop EXTRA missiles and utilize the latest advances in precision guidance technology, out of line of sight (NLOS).
