Cirrus’ Managing Director, Mr. Peter Freed has today announced that the company has secured three new Defence contracts:
with the RAAF for the development of light weight, deployable and interoperable Electronic Warfare (EW) sensors for the localisation of RF transmitters.
with the RAN for the extension for of Cirrus’ Generic COMCEN Simulator (GCS) to additionally simulate the behaviour of the Maritime Tactical Wide Area Network (MTWAN) functionality that operates in concert with a ship’s COMCEN.
with the RAN (following the Commonwealth’s exercise of an option) for the expansion of engineering services provided for additional Tactical Electronic Warfare (TACEW) equipment recently delivered by Cirrus to the RAN (HMAS Watson) under a previously announced contract.
Mr. Freed stated that “Cirrus is very pleased to commence 2020 with these new work engagements with Defence. The breadth of engineering encompassed by these works - spanning from the development of sensor and simulation technologies to the supply of support engineering services - exemplifies the capability within the high technology SME sector of the Australian defence industry.”
About Generic Comcen Simulator
GCS provides end to end training for the COMCEN operators of the RAN’s Major Fleet Units (MFU’s), with all of the equipment of the COMCEN, the interactions between the equipment, and the impact of environmental factors simulated. This includes configuring of antennae, receivers, transmitters, multiplexers, demultiplexers, modems, RF cross bar switch, baseband cross bar switch, cryptographic equipment and COMCEN management software. Trainees learn how to configure equipment to create voice and data circuits, and to understand the impact of the environment on communications. The GCS provides instructors flexible tools to create, edit and run scenarios, and to automatically assess the performance on trainees.
The GCS is in operational use at the Defence Force School of Signals Maritime Communications Information Systems Wing (DFSS MCISW) at HMAS Cerberus.
