* President George H.W. Bush was taken from the Rotunda to the National Cathedral shortly before 11am
* Thousands of people have flocked to the Rotunda since Monday to pay their respects
* Around 3,000 people attended his funeral at the National Cathedral and more than 50,000 lined the streets
* George W Bush will deliver a eulogy to his father as will former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, former Sen. Alan Simpson and historian Jon Meacham
* The former president died aged 94 at his family's home in Houston, Texas, on Friday

The remains of former President George H.W. Bush left the U.S. Capitol Wednesday morning as he began his journey toward his final resting place.

Members of the Bush family, including former President George W. Bush, former first lady Laura Bush, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, awaited the elder Bush’s remains at the bottom of the Capitol stairs.

They placed their hands over their hearts as a four cannon salute was fired and ‘Hail the Chief’ – the president’s theme song – played.

The U.S. Capitol building was quiet for the former president’s final moments lying in state.
