Ahmed Lambu, a terrorist who was allegedly involved in 1993 Mumbai bomb blast case was arrested on Friday. Ahmed was also allegedly involved in illegal supply of weapons

MUMBAI: The Gujarat Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) has arrested 1993 Mumbai serial blasts accused Ahmed Mohammed Lambu, against whom a red corner notice had been issues.

The Gujarat ATS that arrested Lambu from Dhariya would soon hand him over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Mumbai. CBI is the investigating agency in the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai.

Lambu's areest comes two months after another Dawood aide Mohammed Farooq aka

Farooq takla who too was wanted in the 1993 Mumbai blasts was extradited from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

There were 106 convictions in the 1993 Mumbai blasts including 38 life sentences, two death sentences and one execution in the two trials. Lambu's arrest is likely to add to the number of trials and convictions in the case.

Another accused in the case Tahir Merchant alias Tahir Takla, a convict in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case who was sentenced to death, had died at Pune jail of cardiac arrest a couple of months back.

Farooq Takla and Tahir Takla both were suspected to be amongst the key conspirators of the blasts. However, police have kept a silence on Lambu's exact role in the case.

Lambu was part of the Arjun gang and his arrest is a blow to the underworld, police have said.
