J&K CRPF Camp Attack: Late Night Assault Took Jawans By Surprise

Two Pakistani terrorists belonging to Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit stormed in to a CRPF camp of 185th battalion at Lethpora in Awantipora of Pulwama district last night, killing fourJawans. Both attackers were killed in retaliatory action. The encounter lasted almost 14 hours.

Two heavily armed JeM terrorists attacked the camp at about 2 am, said Inspector General of CRPF Ravideep Sahi.

The Pakistani 'fidayeens' carrying UBGL (under barrel grenade launcher) and other automatic weapons entered the camp in the dead of night, taking the jawans by surprise. They threw grenades and opened fire on the sleeping men, before being challenged.

One of deceased was identified as constable Saif-ud-din Ganai of Nowgam in Srinagar.

The IG further said, the exchange of fire went on till afternoon on Sunday. IG Ravi said, this was deadliest Fidayeen attack by the Pakistani terrorists in recent times.

Militant outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad claimed responsibility for the Fidayeen attack on Lethpora CRPF camp. A statement issued to local media said the "blood of martyrs is yielding results". 

SRINAGAR: Two encounters broke out this morning between security forces and militants in Kulgam and Pulwama districts of south Kashmir, police said.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Nowbug Kund village in Qazigund area of Kulgam this morning after receiving specific information about the presence of militants in the area, a police spokesman said.

As the forces were conducting the searches, the militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter, he said.

The firing was going on when last reports came in, the spokesman said.

He said another encounter broke out in Laam village of Tral in Awantipora area of Pulwama after the militants fired upon a search party of security forces.

Gunfight was going on, the spokesman said, adding, further details are awaited.
